Something to bark about!

I order two peas in the pod during the week of diagnosis.  It is from grommet.com…and also where I ordered a car harness for Gerry from.  It’s multi-purpose, until I order the ruff-n-tuff one from the web site.

…round three next week

I am endlessly amazed at how well my boy is doing since his amputation and two rounds of chemo.  Has any one else heard about Apocaps?  It’s the medication that he is has to take three capsules of, an hour before he eats.  I’ve read positive things about the pills in the book the Dog Cancer survival guide.  I just wondered if anyone “out there” has heard if or used them.

Big question.  Should I have Gerry in a supportive harness with this frontal amputation?  I know I can ask my vet, but i want real people answers.  I’ve always massaged his back thighs, and have been continuing to do so, as I feel they have to be doing a lot more work than usual.  He hops and runs just fine on a leash, and I use a sling under his belly to get him out of the car, or off of the bed, but I am still wondering if he might need more.  Advice?  Wisdom?

No new pictures to post.  That last one was a winner!

i L-0-v-E, love my dog walkers!

Just take a LOOK at the smile this picture captured, by Kathleen, the owner of Leashes, my dog walkers. She took it of Gerry on the rail trail behind my house.  It’s his normal walk with them, and he’s just been allowed to go on short walk/runs with them.  They come 3 days a week, mid-day, and he has perked up each and every time they visited, even if they could only stay in the yard with him.  Today was a blissful, beautiful fall day with sun and perfect temperatures.  I’m so lucky that he had such a great day!

I’m trying; really I am…

The ramp was a bad idea…unsuccessful at the least.   Gerry wants to jump up AND down from the bed.  It’s 28 inches from the ground.  UP is fine…but jumping down worries the he!! out of me because I don’t want to put such pressure on his one front leg.  I originally bought a sling with handles right away, and he doesn’t mind when I help him down using it.  I suppose I’m going to have to unromanticize the idea of him getting to do everything he wants, since his diagnosis.  I know I have to stop  as well.  I want “life as it should be” as opposed to “life as it is”.

..and now ladys and gentlemen…the ramp!

Realizing that Gerry is wanting to get back to his usual routine, I needed to order a wedge/ramp in order for him to get to walk up on his bed which is his favorite place to hang.  In order to give him freedom, and not have to watch him and help him off the bed with his sling, to alleviate the pressure on his one front paw I knew I needed a new product.

He overlooks his “domain” and growls lowly at any  deer, turkey or turkey vultures that he sees on the far property line early in the morning.  I just found this, which is GREAT for my truck as well.  It’s been determined that Gerry and I are NOT traveling for turkey day.  Anyone that wants to see us, can come visit.  We’ve been pretty migratory our whole lives, so let the Thanksgiving come to us.  We’ll provide turkey, 2 pies, and the best mashed potatoes you’ll ever have!  Also some fresh green beans and some hugs and kisses you won’t forget!
