Far too long…

Last I typed, I was head first into adopting a new fur baby, new breed, and new needs.  I, honestly, (in)conveniently,  forgot about the basic “take care of me needs” that our furry friends need from us!  At least I didn’t start Boo off with the habit of going on 20 minute walks like I did with Ger, in the spring, and then regretted it once winter HIT.

Mix into that a fractured foot that Boo gave me (Why must my ankles be so WEAK!?)        by the end of our first month together, as well as a black eye.  Add a dash of ‘loving her SO much’, and trying to understand her ways, and we’ve now created something much more than a triad than we were last winter.  Gerry is still  present in my thoughts and I find myself feeling grateful of being reminded of him when I do.  We went away, and left her at a boarding kennel for 3 nights, and I am SO glad to be home!

About danielle

I am a rescue mom and school teacher. Gerry came to me from Texas, after he "failed" as a hunting dog. He had NOT had an easy life. I was three years divorced, and we saved each other. Last week I learned he has osteosarcoma. Our world feels upside down...while everyone else is right side up.

We left Bo at the kennel for the first time in July… omd I felt like a new mom all over again! By the time we got home I was a total mess just wanting to see him and make sure he was ok… he was a mess too! He was so happy to see me that he jumped up to kiss me and tinkled all over me …. sigh. I looked at the mortified guy that had brought him out on his leash and said.. “he’s lucky he’s cute” … they all lost it laughing 🙂

Boo was an overexcited mess too. I don’t know how long she had been in the shelter in Georgia, before the rescue group I got her from here in the Hudson Valley of NY was, but she did a bunch of running around in a circle (until distracted by me to play) when she came to me, and yesterday as well. The staff said she wouldn’t let them touch her with out showing her teeth (which surprised me), but that she learned the doggie door on the second day and ate all her food. I HATE putting a rescue in a kennel even though I know it will only be for a few days. She has no concept of time. I was SO glad to get her home. She played a bit and then PASSED OUT on my legs for almost four hours. Thank goodness I didn’t have to go to the bathroom and there was a Chicago PD marathon on! She’s Much calmer today. Wait until I have to go back to work in a week or so….she’s been spoiled with 24 hour attention!
    Thanks for being in touch!

It’s so good to hear from you! Thanks for the update…my dogs have never been kenneled – which means that my husband and I don’t go on vacations together. He stays home (I make him take off work) when I do my get-togethers with my Tripawd friends, and I love him for that! Congratulations to you both for surviving that ordeal, I can imagine how happy the homecoming was. Gerry picked a winner for you when he found Boo!

p.s. I love Chicago PD too!

Awwww…that picture is soooo sweet. And yes, I said “awwww” outloud when I saw the photo.

Had to chuckle at all the “havoc” on your body that Boo has caused. Javing a blind dog certainly has it’s own set of challenges! I’m pretty much stepped on, bumped into, run over, almost knocked down on a daily basis by my Merry Myrtle. I still have to stop myself from saying, “Myrtle, ‘watch’ where you’re going”. Or, “Myrtle, ‘look’ out.” 🤣😂

I know it was so hard to leave her at a kennel. And she clearly let the staff know she did not belong there😎 But hearing how over rhe moon happy she was to ‘see’ you and to be back in her furever home lit up my world!!😁😁

Gerry will watch over her when you fo back to work😊

Such a sweet photo! It really says a lot about the bond you are forming.

Amazing how we learn so much from our previous dogs, and how our future ones benefit from those lessons. Good job remembering what Gerry taught you. He is so proud.
