“Human Resources”

I was an English major, and although I’m sure, I think this is an oxymoronic JOB!

You can not be humane and ask me about the absences I’ve taken since m dog died.

By the way, I have over 200 sick days banked.  Why?  I was younger, healthier, and didn’t have a baby!

As soon as you go above 10 sick days HR sends you a letter in NY state public education.

I have the maximum of 200 days free.  Why are yo looking for “a pattern ” now?

I’m older.

I never had children.

LEAVE me alone.

About danielle

I am a rescue mom and school teacher. Gerry came to me from Texas, after he "failed" as a hunting dog. He had NOT had an easy life. I was three years divorced, and we saved each other. Last week I learned he has osteosarcoma. Our world feels upside down...while everyone else is right side up.

Brrrrr…that must be sooo frustrating!!! No, there’s no “humane” in the way you are being treated!

Women without children should be a “protected class”, because goodness knows they’re discriminated against and not given the same “benefits” as those with the crumb snatchers 🙂 🙂

200 acquired days of sick days!! WOW!!! Youvew saved the school system money! Certainly haven’t cost them anything!

You lost your best friend, your very best friend and companion and I pity those who don’t understw the loving bond you and Gerry shared!

Oh no, not “the pattern”?!?! Most people today have no feelings for anything that does not involve them, it’s truly a joke. As a teacher you must be a union member? (Please say yes) So tell them to kiss it…
    Hugs and much love,

I just read somewhere that a woman sued for “compassionate leave” when her dog got really sick and she won! I am just not sure if this was here in Europe or in the States. It should be the gold standard actually. Luckily I have always had very compassionate employers, otherwise there would have been no way.
I also opted out of having children and I get hassled for it all the time. I also refuse the notion that Manni “was my surrogate child”. If I had wanted children I would have had them. Manni was still more than a friend, he was part of myself as I’m sure Gerry was to you. Compassionate leave should be the least that we should get for losing part of ourselves.

I hear your frustration. When Isa was sick and I was running to the vet every 15 minutes (we’ve all been there), I couldn’t use any sick time for that. Had to be from the three days of “personal time” and when that ran out it came from my vacation time. I don’t have anywhere near to 200 hours of sick time but a lot (yep, single, no kids, although not as young as I once was). If it had been a human kid I was running to the doctor, that could have come out of my sick time. The two days I took off when Isa left for the Bridge were at least allowed as sick days. I don’t understand HR anywhere and I’m so sorry they’re hassling you. Union or not, tell them to “kiss it”!
So much for the “human” in human resources!

Gerry was the best boy.. The HR person has no idea..

    Teri & Wanda,
I have never had reason to suspect this employee, ever. His first year in district, the same year I was divorcing my husband, he tole me in a private meeting, he’d watched me become, “lesser of a teacher” that year, AND I was changing my entire life. I had been teaching for 13 years before that, but this was HIS first year “observing” me. How would he know? As the Peter Principal would have he’s been promoted to the HR position, which is “as far”as he can go. The U.S is so ass-backwards when it comes to compassionate leave, whether is be maternity, or loss of an animal. It’s yet another embarrassment.
