I’ve lived my whole life in NE and so snow is no stranger or foe to me. I used to LOVE snow, until I moved to NY and was influenced by all of the snow whiners!
Now I say nothing.
If I don’t ask you to walk my dog in the cold weather, then you have NO reason to complain as far as I’m concerned. Gerry and I have been getting outside each morning just after 5 AM, in every type of weather, no matter what, as I have to get to work, folks, and the dog walkers aren’t coming until 12:00 or so, so he’d BETTER go!
Since Gerry has become a tripawd, I have become more patient with him outside. I don’t want to yank him, and I want him to savor every smell. However! With the temperatures going to below 20 degrees or so, he’d better get down to business as quickly as he can, or wait until the sun has risen.
I love my boy so much. He’s a sleepy boy in this shot!
Awww, I love him too! Yep, Tripawds teach us patience and tolerance, among many other things. He’s lucky to have such an amazing mom – I don’t think I could do much at 5am, bless you! Thanks for the update, keep them coming!

Fortunately, but the time Otis was ready to walk, it wasn’t so horribly cold. We would walk to the end of the cul de sac (5 houses) and then sit in that neighbor’s yard while he looked around and sniffed. On nice summer days, we were there a long long time. Colder weather or rain we either relied on his Kong or other indoor toys or I bundled up and tried to keep his rest to a minimum (fortunately, he did not like sitting or laying in wet or snow either)! But I know that 5 a.m. walk drill!
what a gorgeous boy! I know all about the 5 am walks in the dark and the cold, waiting for them to get on with their business! 🙂 But my boy loves the cold so he’s actually gotten a bit more active lately (unlike me).
letting them savor every smell is such a beautiful way of putting it and so very true. I try to savor every moment that I feel he’s content or even happy.
