Sometimes

…just like I thought mine would cure him.  X-rays taken yesterday suggest otherwise.  The cancer is back….nodules in his lungs….”just a few”….and now more decisions shoved in my face (is how it feels).  I’m blessed to have the summer months with him.  I don’t know what else to say.

About danielle

I am a rescue mom and school teacher. Gerry came to me from Texas, after he "failed" as a hunting dog. He had NOT had an easy life. I was three years divorced, and we saved each other. Last week I learned he has osteosarcoma. Our world feels upside down...while everyone else is right side up.

Just because he has lung mets doesn’t mean the cancer will take him right away. Sassy lived almost 8 months with the cancer in her lungs. We made the most of everyday. Take lots of pictures with you in them, go make a bucket list and do some of those things on his list. Take him on rides if he enjoys it, Ice cream, the park. Just spoil him rotten.

    My thoughts are with you.

Ditto what Michelle said…I have no experience with this, but have listened to others’ who have. It’s disheartening for sure, and sad and scary, but it DOESN’T mean the end just yet. I believe Jerry also had lung mets that he lived with for quite a while. Take some time, and breathe, and make your decisions. I know you feel he already has a lot of meds he takes; do your research, and decide what the next step will be – the best step for both of you. Like Sally would say, Gerry doesn’t know he has nodules, and really doesn’t care. He cares that he’s with you and that you love him. We’re here for you both, give him a hug from us.

Ditto Mochelle and Paula. Nope, not the news you want to hear….but thank goodness Gerry didn’t hear it because he feels just fine!! NOTHING has changed in Gerry’s world because of stupid ole’ xrays! And you must not let thst “news” interfere with your time together!!

Just like you have done everyday since Gerry picked you…MAKE EVERY MOMENT COUNT!!! And ro Gerry, every moment is never ending bliss! 🙂

As already noted MANY dogs get extended quality time even AFTER mets are discovered. And there ARE treatments tonhelp sustain thst good quality rime for more loving and spoiling. Some did extra treatments, some didn’t, so that paet can be a bit of a crap shoot. But yeah, Palladia is kne avenue, Metronomics is another…And there are others, plus some Holistic approaches.

Gerry is sympton free and it sounds likes these mets are giving him any issues at all right now so that’s really good! And even after symptoms do start to show up, quality time is still there ro be enjoyed,

There’s plenty of time to grieve for our dogs…vut we should NEVER spend one moment in sadness while they are still here living their life to the fullest! And goodness knows, that handsome sweet Gerry is right by your side being completely happy and content! 🙂

STAY CONNECTED and let us know how we can help or give you any insight on certain treatments, etc.

And YES, we DEFINITELY want more pictures of this sweet and gentle Soul!

    Love and hugs

I think we have all been where you are – if our love along were enough to cure cancer, all of our dogs would be healthy. Just take it one day at a time, and enjoy every day. Gerry doesn’t know about the mets and doesn’t really care. But a cheeseburger would be nice.

I’m so sorry – cherish the moments and spoil him silly . If you haven’t already tried a new diet, you may want to research. My heart breaks for you – I was in this situation 3 years ago – after a successful amputation and recovery, the nodules showed up in his lungs. Much love to you both.

      Erica,

I’m curious about how you changed the diet. I’m already noticing that he is eating less, and I’ve added different things to make him more interested…like mash sweet potato, carrots, green beans, cottage cheese, boiled chicken meat (not all at once of course, but I’ve added it to his kibble.) He has to eat to take one of his meds that he takes every other day.
